Is it possible to have twins when neither you or your husband was one yourselves?

I'm no where near getting married or having kids, but I have always dreamed that when I do, I would have twins. I dont have a twin and if my future husband doesnt either, is it possible to have that?Is it possible to have twins when neither you or your husband was one yourselves?
Twins are born to non-twin parents all the time.

There are artificial ways of increasing the odds of having twins. Is it possible to have twins when neither you or your husband was one yourselves?
Yes. It has nothing to do with this kind of history.

Also note that there are two kinds of twins: identical and non-identical. This is in fact additional info not related to your question, but it should help to show that the answer to the question is more complicated in case you want to do additional research.

An interesting site with anecdotal info is here:

yes of course it is usually people that have twins are not even a twin theirselves it doesnt even have to run in your family it all depends on the way your body reacts to your husbands spirm
anything could happen!

Remember miracles happen everyday!
Yep! While coming from a family with a history of twins does increase your chances of having twins, it is possible for people without that genetic tendency to produce twins too. Identical twins happen when a fertilized egg divides into two separate embryos; Fraternal twins happen when at ovulation the mother releases two eggs from her ovaries instead of one.
yes that can happen my grandmother had a set of twins it competely skipped a generation and my aunt that was a twin didnt even have twins her brother did there are two types of twins faternal and identical as were my aunt was an identical twin her brother my uncles two were faternal a boy and a girl
yes if it is in your genes. Does he or you have a seviral biological family members or relatives who have a twins? if the ans is yes then it is possible because one of you has the genes needed for you to have a twince.
Sometimes it can run in the family, my great grandmother was a twin. And she had twins her first time pregnant, unfotunetly they both died. Her second time pregnant she had twins again, but onhly one lived, and her third time she had twins again, but again only one lived. Before her there were a lot of twins in the family but there haven't been any since then. I hope i'm not the one to pick up the trait again!
