Heck they don't even take care of you before you die, why do you think it would be different after he is gone (God forbid). If he is seriously injured (physically or mentally) his care will be minimal.
Tell him to find another occupation other than killing people and putting himself in harms way. He should have done this before he married you and had dependents if that was his hearts desire.
During boot camp, you will not receive money, you get those checks at the end. Benefits are great, start somewhere in the mid of boot camp. If he goes to war (probably will), and dies, you will receive $250,000.00 and benefits for the rest of your life. Hope that helps.

All of these people that answered you are all a little right. But not totally. Yes the day you go to boot camp your benefits start. You start getting paid immediately. But in boot camp what do you need money for? so they dont give you an account til about half way through. Life insurance coverage is 400,000 dollars only while you are deployed to a combat zoone. i,e, iraq. and 250,000 back in the states. You should let him do it but ask him to pick a MOS that is not infantry. Something like motor T or avionics or even admin. Just for at least 4 years. If he gets out it will be such an honor. He will get support and benefits from every angle. If he gets hurt while he is in then when he gets out he can and will get paid for life. I got out of the Marines and said I had ringing in my ears(true) about 2 times a week. Also I have a few sunspots on my skin. I know get a check for 650.00 every month til I die. Imagine if you loose a leg! Just stand by his side you have to be strong.
You deserve an honest answer. No matter what the benefits/insurance, you are NOT set for life! 250,000.00 goes NO WHERE today. And that is if he is killed....more likely, if he is hit, he will be maimed, and the army does NOT take care of their own. If he sustains a head injury, he could be a helpless vegetable for the rest of his life, and the army has a great way of treating those wounded..they deny all responsibility! This is NOT one of his wiser decisions ! With the way the Army is treating veterans, I wouldn't enlist for anything! And he can sign up for 4 years, but that does NOT mean he will get out in 4 years...once in, they can keep you for as long as they want!

Yea, you are set if (God forbid) he dies at war. The amount depends on what he has as life insurance and other choices he has made.
You don't get paid till half way through boot camp, the other girl is right. They can send him to war when they want to. After boot camp and the 3 month mobilization time, he is fair game.
You usually enlist for 4 years, but most re-enlist with a bonus and it goes on from there.
Being an Army wife has its benefits, but as a Army wife with a husband in Iraq for the 2nd time, I can tell you it is not easy. Girl, if I could only tell you how not easy it is.
