Does my Italian husband need to have a visa to enter the US or just his passport?

We have been married for about 5 months and the US embassy wants 15鈧?to answer my questions via telephone. I think a passport is enough, but nothing on the website talks about spouses...THANKS!Does my Italian husband need to have a visa to enter the US or just his passport?
If he just want to go to the states for a short, non-extensible tourist visit for up to 90 days he may travel on his Italian passport under the Visa Waiver Program. For travel after January 12, 2009 a prior Electronic System Travel Authorization (ESTA) must be obtained on the internet. For all other purposes or longer durations he would need a visa.

It should only take you a couple phone calls or emails to know for sure what is needed.

Charging money to answer a phone sounds like a rip off from here. You might email, usvisa@state.gov %26lt;usvisa@state.gov%26gt; , the State Dept. and ask if this is proper protocol.

You ;might try visiting them in person if this is not too far a trip. A few days in Roma doesn't sound too bad, especially during the off season.

You might also try a reputable travel agent as they should know what visa requirements are required.

Buon Viaggio!

Welcome to Italy where you get ripped off at every chance. The US State Dept. does not charge US Citizens to answer questions. I have been the US Embassy in several countries and have never encountered anyone trying to charge me.

I do not know if they charge foreign nationals who want to come to the US. I suggest you appear in person and get in the line that says US Citizens and US Resident Aliens. They will give you all the information and paper work you need for free.

My son is bringing his new bride home from Germany, he had to get her a VISA, so my best guess is they are going to say your husband needs a VISA and other Entry Forms completed, so may as well go in person, you will have to pick up the forms anyway.
